It Ain't Nobody's Business 8:36 Recorded in France in 1974 and 1975, this is a set of classic blues tunes with very good sound but a somewhat aimless performance. It does include a wonderfully slow and crisply defined rendition of 'Stormy Monday'. Live At Liberty Hall: 1. Hey Baby 7:59 2. Feeling Alright 5:37 3. Ain't No Sunshine 4:38 4. Going Down 4:39 5. Have You Ever Loved a Woman 10:02 6. My Feeling For The Blues 7:59 7. I Love You So 5:52 8. Let The Good Times Roll 7:17 9. Kansas City 7:31 Recorded in the early 70's in Texas, this is a mix of classic blues tunes and a few more contemporary numbers. Poor sound, and a certain amount of aimless playing mar this collection. Live At The Texas Opry House: 1. Your Move 6:20 2. Ain't Gonna Worry Anymore 5:24 3. Hideaway 4:51 4. Guitar Blues 1:16 5. Meet Me in the Morning 7:01 6. Sweet Home Chicago 8:04 7. Boogie on Down 5:25 Apparently Freddie's last recording, this excellent recording shows no signs of his impending demise, with crisp, focussed, energetic guitar work. Mostly lesser-known works, but very good nonetheless - 'Guitar Blues', although very abbreviated, is a wonderful slow blues. Live In Germany: 1. Sweet Home Chicago / Ghetto Woman 8:23 2. Have You Ever Loved a Woman 7:41 3. The Moon is Rising 6:56 4. It Ain't Nobody's Business 9:28 5. Big Legged Woman 5:16 6. Woman Across The River 3:51 7. Key To The Highway 5:42 8. Let The Good Times Roll 8:03 9. Stormy Monday / Little Bluebird 13:37 A really quite good one (good sound, energetic, crisp, focussed playing), one I would definitely recommend to anyone who wants to have any Freddie King albums. Almost all the tracks are good, and which ones you'll like best depends on what kind of blues you like: 'The Moon is Rising' is a great old slow blues, and 'Big Legged Woman' and 'Woman Across the River' are classic Freddie King numbers, but I'm especially partial to 'Key to the Highway' and 'Stormy Monday'. Texas and Oklahoma Club Dates 75: 1. Look On Yonder Wall 8:22 2. Woman Across The River 4:16 3. Mojo Boogie 6:21 4. Something You Got 6:07 5. Messing With The Kid 5:48 6. Hey Baby 7:53 7. Have You Ever Loved a Woman / Rock Me Baby 10:32 8. Shake Your Bootie Baby 2:38 This is a Japanese album, and as usual with Japanese albums, everything about it is excellent - the sound is good, and the performance is energetic, crisp and directed. It contains (apparently - the liner notes are in Japanese), as the title says, live recordings from clubs, which matches the audible clues. Exellent versions of 'Look on Yonder Wall', 'Mojo Boogie', 'Hey Baby' and a wonderful 'Have You Ever Loved a Woman'/'Rock Me Baby' medley. ++Mixed Live/Studio++ [# = Live] Freddie King 1934-1976: 1. Gambling Woman Blues 8:46 9. Farther On Up The Road 7:32 # While this album consists of bits and pieces from various sources, it has its high points. The first two tracks are from a 1974 English studio date, and have a very "commercial" sound. The next two are from a 1975 Texas simulcast, and are quite good. The next is from the English studio, but with a completely different backing group, and is reasonably good. The real interest on this CD is generated by the last four tracks (three studio and one live), which feature Freddie King playing with Eric Clapton and Eric's so-called "Oklahoma Pocket" backing group (George Terry, Dick Sims, Carl Radle, and Jamie Oldaker). All are quite good, and "TV Mama" is excellent. Larger Than Life: 1. It's Better To Have (And Don't Need) 2. You Can Run But You Can't Hide 3. Woke Up This Morning 4. It's Your Move 5. Boogie Bump 6. Interview 5:03 An excellent album, notable for including the only known recordings of Freddie performing on an acoustic guitar - excellent versions of 'That's Alright' and 'Dust My Broom', showing his complete mastery of the older idiom. The live tracks (recorded at the Electic Ballroom, Atlanta), Freddie's classic live playlist, display crispness, focus and energetic playing. ++Studio++ All His Hits: 1. My Feeling For The Blues 2:07 A generally good album, somewhat marred by a somewhat incongruous horn section. The horns work well sometimes (e.g. on "Stumble"), but on other tracks (especially "Stormy Monday") they really don't fit in with the mood of the piece. One of the highlights of the album is a wonderful version of "The Things (That) I Used To Do" (which may be familiar to some of you, from the version on Stevie Ray Vaughn's 'Couldn't Stand the Weather' album) with an excellent harmonica backing.
